Sauna Maintenance & Repair Done Right

Wood takes a beating in this city. Salt air from the beach, fog on the west side, and damp winters all wear on a sauna, whether it is two years old or twenty. Benches turn gray. Cedar loses its shine. Heaters wear out. Vents clog and the room stops breathing right. San Francisco Sauna fixes all of that and keeps your sauna heating clean and even, year after year. We work on saunas we built and ones we did not, from a nice Finnish cabin to a cheap kit heater in a garage. We are a licensed California Class B builder, insured and bonded, and we do not guess. We find the real problem and fix it. Most visits are done the same day. If you would rather not think about it, we offer a yearly plan that keeps the wood, heater, and vents in good shape.

How We Work

From the first drawing to your first steam, we keep it simple and clear.

1. We check the whole room

Before we give you a price, we look at the whole sauna: the heater and stones, the benches, the wood, the seal, and the airflow. We find what is wrong, trace it to the cause, and give you a clear, item-by-item list. If a part is still good, we leave it alone.

2. We fix it in one visit when we can

Our truck comes stocked with the common parts: stones, heater parts, sealant, and sanding and oiling gear. So most tune-ups and repairs are done before we leave. If we need to order a part or rebuild something, we set the plan and price with you first.

3. We match the fix to your sauna

New wood, oil, and stones are matched to what your sauna already has, so the fix blends right in. We finish it to the same standard as a brand-new build and leave the room clean and ready to heat.

When You Need Sauna Maintenance & Repair

A sauna usually warns you before it quits. Call us when you see any of this:

  • Slow or weak heat. If it takes forever to warm up or will not get past 170°F, it is usually the heater, the stones, or the sealing.
  • Cracked or crumbling stones. Old stones block the airflow and flatten the steam, and they are meant to be swapped out.
  • Rough, gray, or soft benches. Gray or blotchy wood needs sanding and oil, and any soft spot means water is getting in.
  • A musty smell or drips. That means the vents or the seal are failing, which is common in this fog. Left alone, it rots the wood.
  • A door that will not shut or loose glass. A warped door or worn seal leaks heat, and loose glass is a safety issue.
  • More than a year of use. Even a good sauna needs a yearly wood and heater check, more so near the salty ocean air.
  • A sauna in a home you just bought. We will check it top to bottom, tell you what it needs, and get it safe and working.

Not sure what is wrong? Snap a photo or two and send them when you call. Most of the time we can size up the job before we even load the truck. Call: 415-942-0310

What Affects the Cost of Sauna Maintenance & Repair

There is no set menu. The price follows the work in front of us. What changes it:

  • How big the job is. A quick tune-up with new stones costs a lot less than a full bench rebuild. We tell you plainly what can wait.
  • The heater. Parts differ by brand, and old or imported heaters can take longer to find parts for.
  • The shape of the wood. A quick sand and oil is easy. Pulling out water-damaged boards is a bigger job.
  • Vents and sealing. Fixing bad vents or a bad seal sometimes means opening a wall. It costs more now but saves you from rot later.
  • Where it is and how we reach it. Indoor, outdoor, or a tight corner all change how fast we can work.
  • The yearly plan. Our yearly deal rolls the basic care into one set price and catches small problems early.

You get an itemized price before we start, and we always tell you what really needs fixing now and what can wait.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you fix a sauna you didn't build?

Yes, and most of our repair work is on saunas other people built, from imported cabins to flat-pack kits. Any brand, any age. We check it, find the problem, and get it working safely again.

How often does a sauna need service?

Once a year is a good rule, and more often for outdoor or west-side saunas, where the fog and salt air are hard on the wood and vents. A yearly check heads off most big repairs.

Can it be done in one visit?

Most of the time, yes. We come stocked with the common parts, so most calls are done that day. Big rebuilds or special-order parts need a second visit, which we plan ahead.

What is in the yearly plan?

One yearly visit: we check the heater and stones, care for the wood, check the vents and seal, and adjust the door, all for one set price. It keeps the sauna working and catches small problems early.

My heater barely gets warm. Worth fixing?

Usually, yes. Weak heat is almost always a worn part, old stones, or lost sealing, and all of those can be fixed. We test it and tell you honestly if a repair or a new heater makes more sense.
